One thing I love about growing your own food is that you can be a bit spontaneous, especially when you spot something that you hadn't remembered about or something you weren't expecting!
I headed out into the garden last night, as earlier that morning, when I had put the girls out, I spotted that the Blackberry bush appeared to have suddenly burst into life with some rather yummy looking berries. My little mind began thinking of a plan and when I saw a few pears on the ground I knew what I had to do!

When the garden gives you windfall pears and juicy blackberries....
You gotta make pie....
And then you gotta eat it!!!!
YUM!! Oh wow, not sure which I'd love more the pies or seeing all the fruit fly!

Those blackberries look yummy. I don't think I've ever had that combo together in a pie, was it as good as it looked?

ReplyDeleteIt was indeed very tasty! As we have both a pear tree and a bramble bush in the garden this is a common pie for me to make. Try adding about 1/2 cup brown or golden caster sugar to the pot when you are cooking your pears, gives them a kind of caramalised taste!!
ReplyDeleteIn fact I went a bit crazy this time with the golden caster sugar, some on the top of the fruit, some in the pastry too!
My husband and I love our garden too. Every day we pick something wonderful. Your blackberry harvest and pie are wonderful! I think I got a little drool on the screen, giggle.
